Project Description / Objectives:

The objective of the project is to investigate the mooring of floating wave energy converters (WECs) and to develop methods, tools and procedures to be used for the design of elastic mooring systems. Laboratory test data from an ocean basin test to be carried out in September 2016 will be made available to the project to characterise the properties of the moorings and of the interaction between one type of mooring system and a WEC. Another laboratory test will be carried out during this project on a different mooring system and WEC configuration for comparison. Full scale data from a prototype presently at sea in Norway will be made available to the project for the analysis of the performance of such systems. Another full-scale field test campaign is to be made in Portugal to monitor the behaviour of an elastic mooring system.

The present project aims to improve the knowledge of using elastic mooring lines for wave energy applications.
